Flour is produced from grain and lentils like wheat, pulses,
and corns. Among flourmill, wheat flour is the most common one that is widely used
as staple flour in our kitchen.
What is the
Process of Flour Milling?
Earlier in ancient times, sliding rocks with grain in between
milling/grinding was done. At that time it was the best process to grind. Fortunately,
today technology today has evolved.
Let’s find out the exact process of milling:
Cleaning
the Wheat – The wheat from the crop is not in its best condition
so it is suggested to clean it thoroughly before processing it. For this, you
can use a device - separator that can do the job of removing unwanted things from
the wheat. After this, you need to use the aspirators to remove the tiniest
parts that are quite lighter to clean them from wheat grains.
Preparing
the Wheat – After this process of cleaning, you can proceed next phase
of grinding the wheat. In this process, the wheat gets dried for removing the
excess moisture from the grain to produce the finest flour. Often, the grains
are processed with hot water or cold water. This treatment improves the quality
of the grains.
Milling of
Wheat – Being the last step of this process, the raw material
is milled and converted into powder form. Before putting it into the grinding
process, the wheat is mixed well to make a batch to be grounded.
Once done, this batch is put into two huge rollers which are prepared
to grind each grain into fine powder. These are also termed breaker
rolls. Using filters, the fine flour is collected as per its size. The
finer flour goes to one place. Now using the vibrations, the cleaning process
is done. During this process, the lighter flour skips the bigger ones.
Processing of
the Wheat – Now, as we have gone through all the phases of
grinding, it is time to process it finally. This is the finishing touch prior
to packing the flour and making it ready to dispatch. This phase comprises
adding the bleaching and oxidizing agents to make the flour quality the finest.
Synopsis
The milling process goes through numerous stages of
processing which every batch of wheat to any grain has to go through to make it
ready to use and prepare food. This process converts the solid grains into smaller
ones through compression, friction, and collision stages. During these
processes, gluten and starch are also extracted from grains and cereals to make
them best for use for different purposes.
